Terms of use
What IEPdecode promises, what it explicitly does not, and the limits of a compliance finding.
Effective
What this service is
IEPdecode reads an Individualized Education Program and checks it against a versioned set of deterministic rules derived from federal special-education law. Each finding carries the citation it comes from and a question you can ask at the meeting. A language model is used to extract structured data from a messy document and to write plain-English summaries; it never decides what the law requires.
It is information, not legal advice
Nothing here creates an attorney-client relationship, and no finding is a legal opinion. Special-education law varies by state and turns on facts a document cannot show. Treat a finding as a prepared question, not a conclusion — that is exactly the register the product is built in.
If you are facing due process, mediation, or a formal complaint, consult a qualified special-education attorney or a state-funded parent training and information center.
What we do not claim
The engine reports what it can prove. Where a claim would rest on a judgment call — whether "biweekly" means twice a week or every other week, whether a reworded goal is genuinely the same goal — it degrades to a weaker, verifiable statement rather than guessing. An absent finding therefore means "not detected", never "compliant". A clean report is not a certificate.
Extraction quality depends on the document you give it. A low-resolution photograph of a scanned form will produce a worse extraction than a text PDF, and the engine can only check what was successfully read.
Your responsibilities
- Read privacy & data before you upload, and share only what you need — a name or date of birth you can redact is one you do not have to send.
- Upload only documents you hold educational rights over.
- Keep your credentials to yourself. Records are readable by the account that owns them.
- Do not attempt to access another family's records, or to use the service to harass a district employee.
Availability
IEPdecode is an independent project. It may be slow, rate-limited, or unavailable, and the AI-written explanation half of a report may be missing while the deterministic findings still appear — that behaviour is deliberate, not a fault. No uptime is promised.
Warranty and liability
The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, IEPdecode and its author are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including any outcome of a meeting, complaint, or proceeding.
Changes and contact
These terms may change as the project develops; the effective date above will move when they do. Questions go to iepdecode@gmail.com.
